Who I am

I’m James Holloway. I spent ten years behind the counter at independent UK bookmakers in the East Midlands before moving into iGaming editorial in 2019. I’ve written for industry trade publications, ghost-written for two casino-operator content teams, and reviewed slots professionally since 2021. SlotReview UK is my first solo project.

I started this site because nearly every UK slot-review property writes the same review of the same ten slots — copy-paste paytable data, no actual session experience, the same affiliate ranking dressed up as editorial. That isn’t a review. It’s a brochure.

What I write here is different. I play every slot I cover at minimum stake for at least 500 spins on a UKGC-licensed account before I write a word. I screenshot what I see. I record the bonus triggers and what they paid. I read the actual paytable, including the RTP-variant fine print. And then I tell you what I’d tell a friend.

How we test

Every slot review on this site follows the same protocol:

• Minimum 500 spins at the lowest available stake on a UK slot site account.
• Screenshots of at least one base-game payout and one bonus trigger, taken during the session, not lifted from the studio’s press kit.
• RTP verification from the in-game info panel, cross-checked against the studio’s official paytable. If the operator runs a non-default RTP, that’s flagged in the review.
• Three-to-five external sources with their own scores, quoted and credited. The aggregated “what others say” average is shown on every review.
• Verdict score from 0 to 10, weighted across: mechanics (30%), pacing (20%), RTP honesty (20%), maximum-win realism (15%), and theme/execution (15%).
• Updated annually or when a studio ships a sequel that materially changes the original’s position.

This never changes a slot’s score or its position in our review index. We rank slots before we rank operators, and we’d remove an affiliate link before we’d alter a single sentence of an editorial verdict to keep one.

What we won’t do

• Promise wins. No slot “pays better at midnight.” Variance is variance.
• Recommend bonus-buys to new players. The economics are predatory.
• Run cross-promotional content for operators we wouldn’t use personally.
• Hide RTP-variant warnings. The 88% versions of slots exist and you deserve to know which sites use them.
