First impressions

Play’n GO followed Reactoonz with Rise of Olympus in late 2018, and it’s the better slot for it. Where Reactoonz won on novelty, Rise of Olympus won on pacing: a 5×5 cluster-pays grid, three Greek gods who rotate through wild-spawning, symbol-removal, and multiplier features, and a free-spins round that genuinely escalates.

Default RTP is 96.5%, max win is 5,000x stake, and Play’n GO classifies it as “high” rather than “very high” variance. In practice it feels exactly that: more frequent decent wins than Reactoonz, fewer Gargantoon-style explosions, but a smoother bankroll curve.

The three gods (and which one to root for)

After every winning cluster, one of Zeus, Poseidon, or Hades steps in and applies a base-game feature: Zeus destroys two random symbol types, Poseidon converts a low-pay symbol type into a high-pay, Hades adds wilds in cleared positions. Three non-winning spins in a row triggers all three at once — “Wrath of Olympus” — and that is where the meaningful base-game money lives.

The free-spins round is selectable: Hades for fewer, more powerful spins; Poseidon for the middle option; Zeus for more spins at lower base multipliers. I ran most of my session-test bonuses on Hades and the results were predictably explosive — one round in particular paid 870x my stake on a single cascade with a 5x multiplier. The lower-variance Zeus track barely matched its own free-spin count in payouts.

What you get in 700 spins

I bought into a UK-licensed Casumo session at 20p stake. Hit four free-spins triggers in 700 spins, won back ~210% of my buy-in, lost the rest to base-game grind. The grid’s hit frequency at ~32% means base game does pay back regularly, but the cluster minimums are stingy — five matching symbols are worth less than your stake on the low-pay tier.

What lifts the slot above Reactoonz is its sense of theatre. The three gods animate distinctly, the Wrath round is genuinely thrilling, and the free-spins choice gives you an actual decision to make — uncommon in the modern grid slot. The maths supports the personality.

The caveats

Same RTP-variant warning as Book of Dead and Reactoonz — Play’n GO ship a 91.5% version that some operators serve. Also note that Rise of Olympus 100 (the 2021 follow-up with retriggers) outperforms this one on raw maximum win at 10,000x stake. But the original is still our pick for cleanliness.

Verdict: 8.4/10. Cluster pays with rhythm. The free-spins selection is a small touch that elevates the whole experience.

Where to play Rise of Olympus in the UK

The Rise of Olympus slot is carried by every Play’n GO-stocking UKGC operator. PlayOJO, Casumo, MrQ, and BetVictor all run it under identical paytables and the same 96.5% RTP build. What changes between sites is bonus eligibility: a few operators exclude cluster-pays slots from free-spins promotions because the mechanic generates too many small hits. Read the bonus T&Cs page before you commit a deposit, and budget for the variance — this is a high-volatility slot regardless of which UK casino you play it at.

Rise of Olympus mechanics — the god picks

The hook on Rise of Olympus is the three-god rotation. After every winning cascade Hades, Poseidon, or Zeus applies an effect: Hades destroys one symbol type, Poseidon transforms one cluster, Zeus drops three wilds. Trigger fifteen wins on the same god and the free-spins round unlocks with that god in full control. Zeus mode is the session-defining one. Hades free spins are the most reliable in terms of base payout. Poseidon sits between them.

How Rise of Olympus compares to other Play’n GO Greek slots

Play’n GO have shipped a small library of Greek-mythology slots — Rise of Olympus, Rise of Olympus 100, Rise of Merlin (Arthurian, not Greek, but mechanically similar), Battle of Atlantis. Rise of Olympus 100 is the upgraded sequel with a 100-line grid and a max win of 10,000x. If you have already played the original Rise of Olympus and want the bigger ceiling, that is the one to look for. The original still has the cleaner art direction.

The default RTP is 96.5%. Operators may run 94.5% or 91.5% variants — check the info panel before spinning.

Hades is the highest-variance option (fewer spins, higher payouts). Zeus is lowest-variance. Poseidon sits in the middle. Most reviewers pick Hades for max-win attempts.

What is Wrath of Olympus?

A base-game feature triggered by three consecutive non-winning spins. All three god features fire at once.

Is there a Rise of Olympus 100?

Yes — a 2021 sequel with the same engine but a 10,000x cap and retrigger mechanics. Different game from this review.
